FAMILIAL OCCURRENCE OF LETTERER-SIWE DISEASE

Volker W. Schoeck M.D.1, Raymond D. A. Peterson M.D.1, and Robert A. Good Ph.D., M.D.1

The cause of acute disseminated histiocytosis X is still unknown. This review indicates that the involvement of hereditary factors is likely; however, further evidence, such as the observation of the disease in two or more generations of the same family, is needed. There is also sufficient evidence for a communicable agent to warrant a further search for such an agent.
