SEX-LINKED HYDROCEPHALUS

Report of Two Families, with Chromosomal Study of Two Cases

Herbert L. Needleman M.D.1 and Allen W. Root M.D.1

1 Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania

Two families, each containing more than one hydrocephalic male member, have been reported. Chromosomal analysis has been normal in one member of each family. Reports of 11 families have been found in the literature with multiple male hydrocephalic members and without affected female members. From an analysis of these families it seems likely that there is a sex-linked factor in the heredity of one form of hydrocephalus.
