NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

At the 39th Annual Meeting of the National Committee on Mental Hygiene in New York recently, Dr. C. Anderson Aldrich, Director of the Rochester Child Health Institute, Mayo Clinic, was presented the $1,000 Lasker Award for 1948.

Dr. George Baehr, president of the New York Academy of Medicine, presented the award to Dr. Aldrich for "outstanding accomplishment in education of the physician in the psychologic aspects of the practice of medicine." Community responsibility for the improvement of mental health of the nation was the point of emphasis at the meeting, and Dr. Baehr described the field of pediatrics as "the most forward looking branch of medicine, one which has assumed its share of preventive psychiatry as no other branch of medicine has done."
