In Reply: Myleran and Malformations

Israel Diamond M.D.1

1 Louisville, Ky.

I am indebted to Dr. Sherman for calling attention to the two Myleran case reports; and apology is more than due for having overlooked them. As he says—"the dosage was lower and therefore the experiences may not be comparable."

He is also quite right in pointing out that the experimental evidence suggests that 6-mercaptopurine exerts its damaging effect at the time of implantation. Perhaps our position on this point must stand solely on Mersky and Regal's experience; although the administration of the drug during both pregnancies is too striking a coincidence to be ignored.
