ONE may be saddened by the ending of the careers of great men and at the same time deeply thankful that they have lived and spread their influence. So it is with Bronson Crothers and James L. Gamble, two of Boston's Greats, whose careers ended only weeks apart not long ago.
Pediatrics has been profoundly affected by the views and achievements of these men and successive generations will continue to be inspired by their deeds and through their disciples.
This is not an obituary to record the prosaic facts of dates, origins, migrations, degrees and honors, nor is it a eulogy by a close friend or devoted co-worker. These are memories, stirred by the ending of these careers, in one who never ceased to be aware of their influence on him as a medical student and hospital resident.
