Dr. Edward Shaw's letter (Pediatrics, 22:175, July, 1958) performs a valuable service by calling attention to the importance of recognizing what may often be sudden and alarming side effects of the use of phenothiazine compounds. Dr. Shaw reported on reactions in seven children and two adults who experienced "convulsions" while receiving phenothiazine compounds. (Seven of the patients were treated with Compazine®, a Smith, Kline & French Laboratories' product.) I think it might be useful to comment briefly about reactions such as those observed by Dr. Shaw.
