Device for Urine Collections

ELMER R. GROSSMAN M.D.1

1 Department of Pediatrics, University of California Medical Center, San Francisco 22, California

The recent appearance of several articles showing more or less complex devices for collecting urine from baby boys prompts me to describe a simple and effective technique; this system was devised and used for 2 years at Travis Air Force Base Hospital and has been used on the infants' ward at the University of California Medical [See FIG. 1. in Source Pdf] Center for 1frac12 years. The components can be found in any hospital; the apparatus can be assembled and affixed in 10 minutes; it does not leak; no skin irritation has been noted, even with 4-day collection periods; and it can be washed, stored and re-used indefinitely. (See Fig. 1.)
