Programs and Activities of the National Institute of Mental Health Relevant to Children and Child Care

Pediatricians concerned with research in mental health of children should be aware of this review of the activities of the National Institute of Mental Health. This Institute is conducting 139 projects on child development and behavior, including juvenile delinquency, mental retardation and emotional disturbances. Thirty-two of these are being carried out within the Institute and the others are supported by grants to medical schools and other nongovernmental agencies. Twenty per cent of the Institute's grants are devoted to studies of child development. This article provides a résumé of the intra-and extramural programs being conducted under the auspices of the Institute.
