In reply to Dr. Hammond's letter (Pediatrics, 21:162, January 1958) regarding our article on "Salmonella Osteomyelitis and Abnormal Hemoglobin Disease" may we point out that one of the authors (J.L.S.) not only saw the patient under discussion but took care of her during her hospitalization. She was discussed by Dr. Hammond at Grand Rounds at the University of California Hospital and at that time it was concluded that she probably had hemoglobin C-D disease. Subsequently, when the patient's chart was abstracted (September, 1956) there was nothing to indicate that this conclusion had been altered. Therefore, we used the data as then available.
