PLASMA PIGMENTS IN ERYTHROBLASTOSIS FETALIS

I. Spectrophotometric Absorption Patterns

A method for measuring plasma pigments in erythroblastosis fetalis has been developed and submitted to preliminary clinical trial. There appears to be a correlation between amount and kind of plasma heme pigment and severity of disease and, therefore, the technique promises to be a useful tool in evaluating the need for treatment and the effect of exchange transfusion. There appears to be some hope that it may provide further clues as to the pathogenesis of a variable and often puzzling disease.
