Toxic Effects of Cobalt Used in Treatment of Anemia

In a study of blood formation in premature infants it is reported that although cobalt can stimulate erythropoiesis in the premature infant, its tendency to cause enlargement of the thyroid and exophthalmos and evidence of hypothyroidism make it unjustifiable to administer it alone or in combination with iron in treatment of anemia of prematures.
