Although the authors shy away from the use of the term psychiatry in the title of this book, it should nevertheless be classified as a psychiatric text book, dealing particularly with the behavior of infants and children. The publisher emphasizes in his advertising the fact that the book was written by nonpsychiatric physicians. It is just this fact that causes the book to have many deficiencies. In matters psychological there is the naive feeling among people that anyone may write on psychiatric subjects if they have an interest in them, if there has been some personnal experience and a certain amount of reading. One wonders what the pediatric profession would think about a pediatric text written by non-pediatric physicians.
